||
+ | * 1 August – The deal between Desilu Studios and model kit company Aluminum Metal Toys (AMT), brokered by Stephen Edward Poe, is successfully finalized. The deal entailed free support by AMT for the production of the Original Series in return for the exclusive rights to market model kits based on the series. The details of the deal were negotiated by Ed Pearlstein of Desilu Studios and Don Beebe of AMT. It was the start of a decades long association of the model kit company with the Star Trek franchise. As such, AMT is the earliest known company to hold an official Star Trek franchise merchandise license, and since the license has remained valid without interruption until the present day, also the oldest and most steadfast known franchise partner. |
