- Student unrests on the Earth continent Europe make France an undesirable tourist destination for Earth's elite.
- An unusual transporter accident sends Starfleet officers Benjamin Sisko, Julian Bashir and Jadzia Dax to the San Francisco of this year. Sisko and Bashir are taken to the city's Sanctuary District, where Gabriel Bell, who would save the lives of many hostages, is accidentally killed because of their presence. Sisko saves history by pretending he is Bell, resulting in his photo being implemented as Bell's image in all future records. (DS9: "Past Tense, Part I" and Part II)
