Almost 300 years ago, he and several other genetically-engineered humans escaped execution for war crimes on Earth, by cryogenically preserving themselves in deep space. When Admiral Marcus discovered the craft on which they were preserved in 2258, he only chose to awoke Khan. The Enterprise attempts to escape at warp, but the Vengeance pursues them, and knocks them out of the warp stream. Both ships are left damaged, just outside Earth. (Star Trek Into Darkness)
  • Kirk and Khan skydive onboard the Vengeance, where they are received by Scott. They head towards the bridge, encountering several security officers along the way. At the bridge, Marcus is held at gunpoint, and Kirk stuns Khan, being suspicious of his motives. Khan soon regains consciousness, overpowers Scott and crushes Marcus' skull. (Star Trek Into Darkness)

  • The Vengeance, also badly damaged, begins to fall to Earth, like the Enterprise. Khan deliberately pilots the ship towards San Francisco, crashing it in the city centre. Khan survives, and flees through San Francisco. However, he is apprehended by Spock and Uhura. (Star Trek Into Darkness)
  • Due to Khan's regenerative blood cells, a complete blood transfusion is conducted from Khan to Kirk. After two weeks, Kirk is fully revived. Khan is placed in cryogenic preservation once more. (Star Trek Into Darkness)
