Ak'voh is an ancient Klingon tradition. When a Klingon warrior dies in battle, his comrades stay with the body to keep away predators. This allows the spirit to leave the body when it is ready for the journey to Sto-vo-kor.
It is similar to that of an Irish wake. (DS9: "The Ship")
