An alpha-numeric console was an interface with manual input keys with letters and numbers on them to input commands into a computer or other processing device. The console was similar to a 21st century keyboard.

In 2367, Lieutenant Barclay instructed the USS Enterprise-D's computer to create an alpha-numeric console for his right hand in the holodeck in an attempt to create a faster interface between the Enterprise and the Argus Array, whose reactor was about to go critical. (TNG: "The Nth Degree")
