The Amazon is a rainforest and the basin through which the Amazon River flows through in the South American continent of the planet Earth.
In 2151, Ensign Hoshi Sato remembered that, while working as a teacher in a Brazilian university, she once accompanied two other teachers aboard a hydro-skimmer to a small tributary of the Amazon River. The teachers intended to see the wildlife there, which included sloths, pink dolphins and various species of snakes, including anacondas. However, Hoshi Sato also recalled that she had been scared of the snakes. (ENT: "Fight or Flight")
Later the same year, Ensign Sato compared the canopy above the surface of the planet Dakala to the Amazon's thick plant life. (ENT: "Rogue Planet")
