The archaeology and anthropology (or A&A) officer is a scientist aboard Federation starships whose expertise is in archaeology and anthropology.

Lieutenant Carolyn Palamas held the position of A&A officer while serving on the USS Enterprise when it visited Pollux IV in 2267. According to Palamas, her "particular specialties include ancient civilizations, relics, and myths." (TOS: "Who Mourns for Adonais?")

In the TNG era, it would seem this position still exists, possibly with the same name. Dr. Ramsey was mentioned as being in charge of archaeology on the USS Yamato by Captain Varley in his log entry in TNG: "Contagion". Lt. Marla Aster was "ship's archaeologist" on the USS Enterprise-D until her death in TNG: "The Bonding".
