USS Armstrong

Armstrong-type starship, USS Armstrong

The Armstrong-type was a type of starship used by Starfleet in the mid-23rd century. This type was unique for Starfleet in that some of its ships were painted brown.

Specifications

A typical ship of this type had two outboard nacelles and an inboard nacelle. These nacelles were connected by swept pylons to the underside of the primary hull. Similar to the Miranda-class starship in the regular reality, an Armstrong-type starship was equipped with a rollbar supporting a multi-tube torpedo launcher. Extending from the trailing edge of the primary hull, and connected to the rollbar by smaller pylons, there was a structure housing the impulse drive.

History

A ship of this type, the USS Armstrong, participated in the pivotal Battle of Vulcan in 2258. (Star Trek)

A year later, before the USS Enterprise proceeded on its mission to Qo'noS. two ships of this type were seen at or near Starbase 1. One of these ships, a brown hull variant, was holding station, while its sister ship was assigned to berth B3. (Star Trek Into Darkness)

Ships commissioned

USS Excelsior (NCC-1729) at Memory Beta, the wiki for licensed Star Trek works was depicted in concept art from Star Trek - The Art of the Film as a brown colored ship of this class. According to the novelization of the film, the Excelsior also participated in the Battle of Vulcan.
The ship at berth B3 was seen on the cover of Cinefex, Issue 134.
