Class 2 shuttle passes through arresting field

Shuttle passes through arresting field at an angle

An arresting field was a type of force field used within the shuttlebay of a starship in the 24th century. If a shuttle approach was too fast, passing through the fields would slow the shuttle without bringing it to a complete stop.

Such a field would be activated in anticipation of an uncontrolled landing of a shuttlecraft in the shuttlebay, typically if the pilot was incapacitated. The field would slow and stop the shuttle before it crashed into the bulkhead. In the 23rd century, physical barriers were employed for this purpose. (Star Trek V: The Final Frontier)

In 2376, B'Elanna Torres was piloting a shuttle back to USS Voyager when it sustained damage in an ion storm. The shuttle's life support system failed and put Torres into a coma, during which she experienced a realistic dream of crashing the shuttle in the shuttlebay. In the dream, the shuttle passed through several arresting fields projected by each of the bulkheads in the shuttlebay to slow the shuttle's approach. (VOY: "Barge of the Dead")
