Atrea IV was a Class-M planet. In 2370, it was discovered that its molten core was cooling, which caused seismic activity. Atrean scientists estimated that their planet would become uninhabitable in 13 months. The Enterprise-D was sent to assist the government to correct the problems. Officers Data and Geordi La Forge were teamed up with Atrean scientists Dr. Pran Tainer and his wife Dr. Juliana Tainer. They seveloped a means to reliquify the core using ferroplasmic infusion, which injected heat into the planet to reliquify the core for centuries.
