An attack wing can be comprised of any number of ships, from the size of fighters to carry out a tactical strike against a station, to capital ships used to take on a fleet. Attack wings can either be assigned as part of a fleet or operate independently, depending on the importance of the mission and capabilities of the attack wing. The number of the ships in the attack wing also depends on the type and importance of the mission. A typical squadron would consist of 24 fighters or nine capital ships arrayed in delta formations (three ships to one flight).
