Avenal VII was the inhabited seventh planet of the Avenal system. This system was located deep within Cardassian space, in the Alpha Quadrant.

In 2375, Gowron ordered General Martok to launch an ill-advised attack on this planet. The attack was a disaster, as the Klingons were outnumbered six to one: seven Klingon warships were destroyed, and five more severely damaged, with General Martok himself in the sickbay of the IKS Rotarran in critical condition. The attack was nothing short of a waste of ships, manpower and war materials for the allies. (DS9: "Tacking Into the Wind")

"AV-in-ell" was the pronunciation for this planet's name from the script pronunciation guide. [1]

According to the Star Trek: Star Charts, on page 46, the Avenal system was located in the Alpha Quadrant. This system was a binary star system. Primary was a Class B star with a magnitude of +1, which was 100 times brighter than Sol. Secondary was a Class B star.
