A Ba'neth.
The Ba'neth are an extremely xenophobic and reclusive Delta Quadrant species. No one had ever seen one before Tuvok was assaulted by one aboard the Delta Flyer. He was seriously injured, but gradually made a recovery. Slowest of all was the recovery of his memory, aided by Voyager crewmate Neelix.
The species utilizes cloaking technology to help them remain undetected, and to observe other species traveling through their space. Their existance was never even confirmed until after the screw of Voyager devised a way to detect their cloaking technology. (VOY:Riddles)
