The Battle of Pine Mountain was an engagment fought near Pine Mountain, Georgia in June, 1864, during the American Civil War. This battle was one of numerous engagments that made up Sherman's March to the Sea, specifically the actions around Kenesaw Mountain.

Among the military units involved in the battle, was the 102nd New York Infantry, commanded by Colonel Thaddius "Old Iron Boots" Riker. During the battle, Colonel Riker was injured and carried back from the front line by another soldier who was actually discovered, in 2372, to be a Q.

Over 500 years later, a desecendant of Thaddius Riker, William T. Riker recalled Sherman's March when describing the history behind the image of Thaddius Riker, and the unknown solider who saved him during the battle. (VOY: "Death Wish")
