In starship classification, battleships are a type of large and powerful warship. In traditional terms, battleships are the most powerfully armed and most heavily armored warships of their era. It is likely that the designation still is true among starships, although standards may vary by species and technological level.
Starfleet often referenced Jem'Hadar battle cruiser's as battleships. (DS9: "Ties of Blood and Water")
In alternate timelines, Federation Galaxy-class starships were referred to as battleships. (TNG: "Yesterday's Enterprise", "All Good Things...")
- John Eaves, the model designer for Star Trek: Insurrection, referred to Ru'afo's flagship as a battleship during an interview featured in the special features on the Star Trek: Insurrection (Special Edition) DVD. Despite not fitting the traditional definition, this description can probably be passed off as erroneous, and used in effort to differentiate the model from the Son'a battle cruiser.
