In starship classification, battleships are a type of large and powerful warship. In traditional terms, battleships are the most powerfully armed and most heavily armored warships of their era. It is likely that the definition still is true among starships, although standards may vary by species and technological level.
Starfleet often referred to Jem'Hadar battle cruisers as battleships. (DS9: "Ties of Blood and Water")
The Defiant-class was sometimes referred to as a battleship. (VOY: "Drone")
Satarran agent Keiran MacDuff believed that the Galaxy-class USS Enterprise-D was a battleship, based on her specifications. (TNG: "Conundrum")
In some alternate timelines, Federation Galaxy-class starships were referred to as battleships. (TNG: "Yesterday's Enterprise", "All Good Things...")

Apocrypha
Sometime in the 2280's and 2290's, when the Federation was involved in many small wars (most notably a war with the Interstellar Concordium), a few ultra-powerful warships were constructed, classified as Battleships. Their entry in literature of the time reads this way:
"The largest Federation warship ever designed, the cost of this ship was equal to a full squadron of heavy cruisers. Only a few were ever produced, and those were based on an experimental design. It was decided by Starfleet Command that the cost of the BB was more expensive than it is worth."
They were able to carry several squadrons of fighters, a large marine contingent, and posessed superior firepower to most other Federation starships. (Star Trek: Starfleet Command)
