- You might also be looking for the species known as the Benzites.
The Benzenites are a culture which has taken part in Starfleet and Federation politics.
Laporin, a starship captain, was a Benzenite. He was killed in battle with Klingons in the early 2370s when a Klingon officer disconnected his breathing tubes from his head. (DS9: "Apocalypse Rising")
- Laporin was not seen on screen, so his appearance with or without breathing tubes remains unseen. Laporin is sometimes called a Benzite, despite the script and dialog of "Apocalypse Rising" calling him Benzenite, largely because Benzites also use a breathing apparatus , however they have not been in Starfleet long enough to have gone to Starfleet Academy with Benjamin Sisko as Laporin was described. It is therefore assumed Benzenites are a related species.
