Laporin, a starship captain, was a Benzenite. He was killed in battle with Klingons in the early 2370s when a Klingon officer disconnected his breathing tubes from his head. (DS9: "Apocalypse Rising")
- Laporin was not seen on screen, so his appearance with or without breathing tubes remains unseen. Laporin is sometimes called a Benzite, despite the script and dialogue of "Apocalypse Rising" calling him Benzenite – and the fact the Benzites don't have breathing tubes, nor have they been in Starfleet long enough to have gone to Starfleet Academy with Benjamin Sisko as Laporin was described.
