William "Bill" McCay (born 6 April 1951; age 72) is a science fiction and mystery author who writes for several different series besides Star Trek. He is also credited as William McCay and W.A. McCay.

McCay was born in New York, and has worked in public relations. He has also worked on magazines for the Children's Television Workshop, which he says gave him an insight into "juvenile concerns and culture".[1] His non-fiction work includes books on military biography, geography and sociology.
