Blitmanite 834 was a magnesium-based explosive. This explosive was used in remote spectroscopy vaporization devices for scientific and industrial applications. It was not recommended to use underwater. It was provided in several different sizes ranging from 0.02 g to 2.3 kg depending on the application. This explosive was a version of blitmanite. In 2367, this explosive was stored on aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise-D.
In that year, Blitmanite 834 was on a list of explosives that Lieutenant Commander Data and Counselor Deanna Troi searched through in an attempt to find one that could produce enough energy to release the USS Enterprise-D and an alien ship from the Tyken's Rift. (TNG: "Night Terrors")
