Bobby Thomson was a famous 20th century baseball player from Earth playing as catcher for the New York Giants.

In 2366, Doctor Paul Stubbs remembered a baseball game that Bobby Thomson participated in with the words: "Lockman on first, Dark on second, Thomson at the plate, Branca on the mound." (TNG: "Evolution")

The specific game Stubbs recalled was the decisive third game of a three-game series for the 1951 National League championship between the Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers. This at-bat would culminate in Thomson hitting the home run which would become known as the "Shot Heard 'Round the World", winning the game and the pennant for the Giants.
In actuality, the "Shot Heard 'Round the World" should have read: "Lockman on second, Hartung on third, Thomson at the plate, Branca on the mound." [1]
In ENT: "Carbon Creek", set in October 1957, T'Mir and Mestral listen to a baseball game on the radio that mentions a "Thompson" thrown out at home plate. The only possible baseball game on the radio that month would have been a World Series game, contested by the New York Yankees and Milwaukee Braves. Bobby Thomson was on the Braves that year, though it's more likely that the game on the radio was completely fictional.
