The boss is a title referenced in the book Chicago Mobs of the Twenties.

After this book had become the basis of the culture on Sigma Iotia II in the 22nd century, the term described the men in charge of certain territories on this planet. A boss had to care for the people in his territory as well as for the infrastructure, for which he got a percentage of their money.
