Breen was an inhabited planet in the Breen system. This system was located in the Alpha Quadrant. As the homeworld of the Breen, a warp capable humanoid species, it was the capital of the Breen Confederacy and, in 2375, was allied with the Dominion. Little was known about Breen, but it was widely believed to be a frozen wasteland. (DS9: "Indiscretion", "For the Uniform", "What You Leave Behind")

During the Klingon Second Empire, Chancellor Mow'ga ordered an entire fleet of Klingon warships to invade and conquer the Breen homeworld. The fleet never returned and was never heard from again. (DS9: "'Til Death Do Us Part")

Upon learning that Odo was in love with Kira Nerys, Quark was surprised that Odo was capable of such feelings, as he always thought the changeling was "as cold as a Breen winter." (DS9: "Crossfire")

In 2372, Gul Dukat dreamed about demoting his rival Gul Marratt and assigning him to the Cardassian Embassy on Breen after he regained his former posting to the Detapa Council, knowing how Cardassians hate cold. (DS9: "Return to Grace")

In 2375, after the Breen joined the Dominion, Weyoun claimed it in fact had a temperate climate. (DS9: "The Changing Face of Evil")

In the mirror universe, Kira Nerys commented that she had met Breen icicles warmer than Professor Jennifer Sisko. (DS9: "Shattered Mirror")

"BREEN" was the pronunciation for this planet's name from the script pronunciation guide for "Indiscretion". [1]

According to the Star Trek: Star Charts (pgs. 35-36), Breen was a Class P planet (the class was conjectural). The dominant species was the humanoid Breen. Information was not available on the name of the capital, the world's population, or even when the Breen became warp capable. The Breen system was a single star system. Breen was a M class star with a magnitude of +3, which was ten times the brightness of Sol.
