Captain Bryce Shumar was the commanding officer of the USS Essex during the mid-22nd Century. Shumar and his crew were killed in 2167, following the Essex‘s encounter with a destructive electromagnetic storm, while in orbit of a Class M moon of Mab-Bu VI. (TNG: "Power Play")
