Buzz Aldrin, 1159

Buzz Aldrin taking his first step on the moon

Buzz Aldrin, The Cage

Photographed on the moon's surface

Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin was an American pilot and NASA astronaut who became the second Human to set foot on Earth's Moon (after Neil Armstrong) during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969.

After Jonathan Archer was passed up to pilot Starfleet's first Warp 2 flight in favor of A.G. Robinson and kept on as backup pilot, Archer compared himself to Aldrin, telling Ruby no one remembers what Aldrin said when he first stepped on the moon since he wasn't the first. (ENT: "First Flight")

An image depicting the Aldrin on the moon was contained in the library computer aboard the USS Enterprise in 2254. (TOS: "The Cage" remastered)

The real Buzz Aldrin was a speaker at the Star Trek: 30 Years and Beyond special, where he encouraged working towards manned exploration of Mars.
