Captain Proton was the protagonist of the holonovel The Adventures of Captain Proton, a story created by USS Voyager crewmember Tom Paris. In the story, Proton's sidekick is called Buster Kincaid, played by Harry Kim on a number of occasions, and his secretary is named Constance Goodheart.

The costume worn by Captain Proton bears striking similarity to that of Commando Cody, especially the control panel on the front.
