Galaxy cargobay

A cargo transporter in a cargo bay aboard a Galaxy class starship.

Cargo transporters were larger scale versions of Personnel transporters except optimized for the transport of inanimate objects. Cargo transporters can often be reconfigured to quantum level mode, making the transport of lifeforms and other complex materials possible.

In 2368, the Ux-Mal tried to get Captain Picard to beam others of their kind aboard the Enterprise, to take over the crew's bodies using the Cargo transporter in Cargo bay 4. (TNG: "Power Play")
