Seiter was born in Okemos, Michigan, and studied music composition at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan until 2003, when he decided to move to Los Angeles. [3] He began working with Michael Giacchino as a score assistant in 2004 and later as an additional orchestrator. Their early collaborations included the video game Call of Duty: Finest Hour, the hit Disney/Pixar film The Incredibles, and the hit television series Alias (created by Star Trek producer and director J.J. Abrams) and Lost (co-created by Abrams and fellow Star Trek producer Damon Lindelof).

Seiter has also assisted Giacchino with the scores for the films Sky High, The Family Stone, the Warner Bros. cartoon The Karateguard, the TV special The Muppets' Wizard of Oz, the video games Mercenaries and Gears of War, and the short Pixar films Lifted and One Man Band. In addition, he prepared Giacchino's score for Paramount Pictures' Mission: Impossible III, directed by J.J. Abrams and co-written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Seiter also did additional orchestration and score preparation for Giacchino on the short-lived television series Six Degrees and What About Brian, both created by J.J. Abrams.

More recently, Seiter supervised the preparation of Giacchino's score for the 2007 Disney/Pixar film Ratatouille. He was also one of Giacchino's orchestrators on the film Speed Racer and the video games Medal of Honor: Airborne, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, and Fracture. He composed additional music for the latter two games, as well. In addition, he orchestrated Giacchino's overture for the hit 2008 Paramount film Cloverfield, produced by J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk through their Bad Robot banner.

Currently, Seiter continues to provide additional orchestration and score preparation for Giacchino on Lost. He and Giacchino are also co-composing the music for the new series Fringe, which was created by J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci.
