Charles Seel (29 April 1897 – 19 April 1980; age 82) was the actor from New York, New York, who appeared as Ed the bartender in the Star Trek episode "Spectre of the Gun". Along with Judith Anderson, Morgan Farley, Richard Hale, Anthony Jochim, Felix Locher, Celia Lovsky, Leonard Mudie, Abraham Sofaer, and Ian Wolfe, he is one of only ten credited Star Trek guest stars born in the 19th century to appear in any episode or film.
He is perhaps best remembered for his many appearances as "Mr. Krinkie" on the television series Dennis the Menace. He also made several appearances on the Westerns Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and The Virginian.
He also made brief appearances in a number of classic films, including several that were directed by John Ford and starred John Wayne, most notably 1962's The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. He also worked with Ford on the westerns Sergeant Rutledge (1960, starring Jeffrey Hunter) and Cheyanne Autumn (1964, starring Ricardo Montalban) and appeared with John Wayne in 1960's North to Alaska (also featuring Stanley Adams and Roy Jenson).
His other film credits include The Man with the Golden Arm (1955, starring Frank Sinatra), the B-horror movie classic I Was a Teenage Werewolf (1957, starring Whit Bissell), Pillow Talk (1959, with William Schallert), and Mister Buddwing (1966, with Jean Simmons, Ken Lynch, and Nichelle Nichols). His final film appearance was in the 1973 science fiction classic Westworld, starring Alan Oppenheimer and Majel Barrett.
Seel died in Los Angeles County, California, aged 82.
