- You may be looking for the Battle of Cheron.
Cheron was a Class M planet located in the southern region of the Milky Way Galaxy near the Coalsack, which once supported a humanoid civilization of Cheron natives. When the USS Enterprise scanned the planet in 2268, the instruments revealed large uninhabited cities, extensive traffic systems barren of traffic, and lower animal life-forms and sand encroaching on the cities. There was no sign of sapient life, and there were vast numbers of unburied corpses in the cites.
In the mid-23rd century, this area of space was largely unexplored by Starfleet, so the race was previously unknown to the Federation. (TOS: "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield")
Cheron was located in the Beta Quadrant. This planet was located in the 83 Leonis system. The primary for this system was a Class K star. It had a magnitude of +7, which was 1/10 as bright as Sol. (Star Trek: Star Charts, page 60)
