Christopher Brynner was a wealthy Human businessman and the owner of a company called Brynner Information Systems in San Francisco on Earth in the early 21st century, operating Channel 90 of the Net. He had once gone skiing on Mount Cook, and while at high school in the 1990s received a Māori tattoo that he later removed.

In 2024, Brynner found a woman named Jadzia Dax, who, unbeknownst to him, was a Trill from the year 2371. Brynner offered to assist her in finding her friends, Benjamin Sisko and Julian Bashir, also from the future. He learned that they were being held in the city's Sanctuary District, where the homeless and mentally-ill were interned; unknown to the general public, however, their internment was nothing short of imprisonment.

After locating her friends, Jadzia was able to convince Brynner to restore computer access at the District's processing center, allowing many of its residents to reveal their plight to the outside world. (DS9: "Past Tense, Part I", "Past Tense, Part II")

Brynner was played by Jim Metzler. His first name was derived from Yul Brynner's character of Chris in The Magnificent Seven. His surname is a homage to Yul Brynner himself. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, p. 197)
