Chronowerx Industries was a 20th century computer technology company founded by Henry Starling and headquartered in Los Angeles, California, on Earth. Stock in the company was traded.

Chronowerx was largely responsible for the computer age of the 20th century, coming out with revolutionary advances in computing every few years ever since 1969, when he introduced the first isograted circuit. Unknown to anyone at the time, Starling's technological breakthroughs were based on his crude understanding of the technology aboard the 29th century timeship Aeon, which Starling found after it crashed in 1967. Even the company's logo was a slightly modified version of the Starfleet insignia of the 29th century.

In 1996, Chronowerx was within six months of releasing the HyperPro PC. That same year, Henry Starling planned to travel to the 29th century with the Aeon to retrieve more technology with which to continue the predominance of Chronowerx in the technological field. Both Starling and the Aeon were destroyed by the USS Voyager before completing this goal, in order to prevent Starling from inadvertently causing a catastrophic temporal explosion in the future which would have destroyed all of Earth's solar system. (VOY: "Future's End", "Future's End, Part II")

In 2000, Shannon O'Donnell had a laptop computer that used Chronowerx software. (VOY: "11:59")

Background information[]

The name of this company was originally "Datacom Industries" (commonly called "Datacom"), such as in the first draft script of "Future's End, Part II".

According to the pronunciation guide in the final draft script of "Future's End" and the pronunciation guide in the final draft script of "Future's End, Part II", this company's name was pronounced "KRON-oh-werx".

The spelling "Chronowerx" was visible on the outside and the inside of the company building, on Rain Robinson's computer monitor, and as a screensaver on Henry Starling's computer. It was spelled "Chronowerks" on a wall in the laboratory where the Aeon was kept, however.

The actual building shown in the episode is the Metropolitan Transportation Agency ("Metro") building located in downtown Los Angeles.

Although Shannon O'Donnel's laptop computer was not legible on screen, a graphic from it was included in the Star Trek Fact Files Part 223.

Apocrypha[]

According to the Star Trek: Lower Decks - U.S.S. Cerritos Crew Handbook, Chronowerx launched the suborbital manned rocket ship, Cerritos 1 (β), in 2018. However, the rocket only made three quarters of the way into space. Chronowerx went bankrupt in 2019.
