A Claymore was a Scottish sword, which was never featured in any canonical medium. The weapon referred to as a "claymore" (as used by Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott) was, in fact, a style of broadsword commonly used by Scottish clansmen from the eighteenth century onwards, in either inter-clan or Scottish–English warfare, or as an everyday personal weapon; latterly, it became largely ceremonial in use.
In 2268, Scotty was dazzled by a broadsword of this type when all the weapons in the Enterprise's armory were replaced by antique weaponry. (TOS: "Day of the Dove")
