The Cochrane Equation is a fundamental mathematical expression related to warp drive and allowing a ship to keep a stable warp field. In the Delphic Expanse, Commander Tucker noted that the Cochrane Equation was not constant as there were problems with the quantum variables and the spatial gradients, and it could therefore be extremely difficult to maintain a stable warp field in areas of extreme spatial distortion.
