Background

Columbus

The Columbus in 2267

In TOS, the appearance of the Columbus was a reuse of the footage of the Galileo. It was named after the 15th/16th century Earth explorer Christopher Columbus.

The Columbus was later created as a CGI by CBS Digital. First appearance of this model occurred in "The Journey to Babel" when the Galileo landed in the Enterprise shuttlebay. The registry of the shuttle is seen in this episode, matching the number first assigned to the vessel by the 1970s publication Star Trek Maps.
