A compressed teryon beam weapon was a type of directed energy weapon.

The Lenarians used a compressed teryon beam weapon to attack Captain Jean-Luc Picard in 2369 outside of a conference he and the away team were attending. The weapon fused the bio-regulators in his artificial heart, threatening his life. (TNG: "Tapestry")

According to Star Trek Encyclopedia (3rd ed. p.84) and the TNG Season 6 DVD subtitles the correct spelling was "compressed tetryon beam." However both Worf and the script of the episode clearly stated "compressed teryon beam". [1]
