The Controller
The Controller was the name given to the ancient underground computer control system built on Sigma Draconis VI that used to keep the Eymorgs (Draconis' female inhabitants) alive for a period ten thousand years.
In 2269, an Eymorg named Kara was instructed to acquire a new brain to incorporate into the Controller, a system which they greatly revered, and could not live without.
Dr. McCoy was able to disconnect Spock's brain from the Controller. This effectively nullified the great schism between the Morg (Draconis' male population who lived on the surface) and Eymorgs, forcing an attempt to re-establish a civilization. (TOS: "Spock's Brain")
