Ensign Zweller
Cortin Zweller attended Starfleet Academy as a contemporary and friend of Jean-Luc Picard. After his graduation in 2327, Ensign Zweller was assigned to the USS Ajax under the command of Captain Narth.
Ensign Zweller's game of dom-jot at Starbase Earhart's Bonestell Recreation Facility resulted in a barfight with a trio of Nausicaans shortly before he shipped out aboard Ajax. In the brawl, Ensign Picard was knifed through the heart. Following the incident and Picard's recovery, he and Zweller remained friends for years. (TNG: "Tapestry")
- Zweller was played by actor Ned Vaughn. No other information about Zweller's life after the fight was revealed, other than Picard's line that he and Zweller were friends for years afterwards, although it seems that he did indeed ship out on Ajax. A Pocket Books novel entitled Rogue revealed that by 2372, Commander Zweller had become affiliated with Section 31 later in his career, which ended in disgrace after a 31 operation resulted in the loss of his assigned starship, the USS Slayton.
- Zweller also makes an appearance in the shortlived Marvel Comics series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, where he retains the rank of commander.
