A crew evaluation was a process undertaken aboard a ship or service organization to critique and reward the skills and abilities of a crew. They determined if a crew member should be promoted and/or transferred to a more suitable job. Most crew evaluations were formalized in a crew evaluation report.
On Federation starships, crew evaluations were the purview of the senior command staff, usually the executive officer. Medical and psychiatric staff members, such as the chief medical officer or ship's counselor usually participated as well.
