A crystal was a regularly-ordered solid mineral.

One notable material occurring in crystal form was dilithium. Crystals were also key components of various Federation technologies, such as the linear memory crystal in computer cores, discharge crystals used in phaser rifles, and emitter crystals used in subspace transceivers.

In the Earth comedy movie The Court Jester, the chalice with the palace was made out of crystal. (ENT: "Doctor's Orders")
