Hudson is a former sound re-recording mixer who worked in the sound department on a number of films from Paramount Pictures, including Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. His work on the latter earned Hudson his first of three Academy Award nominations, which he shared with Gene S. Cantamessa, Mel Metcalfe, and Terry Porter. Hudson has worked with Metcalfe and Porter on many other projects; together, they have shared an two additional Academy Award nominations, as well as an Emmy Award and two Emmy nominations.
In addition to the Star Trek films, Hudson also worked for Paramount on films such as Airplane!, the Joseph Sargent-directed Coast to Coast (working with Gene S. Cantamessa), Mommie Dearest, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, and Fatal Attraction. His early credits also included The Beastmaster, Cujo, The Terminator, Hoosiers, and Rain Man. In addition, Hudson received Emmy nominations for the TV movies Fire on the Mountain (shared with Mel Metcalfe) and The Executioner's Song.
Hudson, Metcalfe and Porter shared the 1985 Emmy Award for Outstanding Film Sound Mixing for a Limited Series or a Special for the mini-series Space. They also received Emmy nominations for the TV movie Wallenberg: A Hero's Story and an episode of Moonlighting.
From the late 1980s through 1994, Hudson worked with Mel Metcalfe and Terry Porter at Buena Vista Sound. As such, they took part in the sound mixing in a number of films distributed by Touchstone Pictures, Hollywood Pictures or Walt Disney Pictures, including Good Morning, Vietnam, When Harry Met Sally..., Pretty Woman (starring Jason Alexander), Arachnophobia, What About Bob?, Father of the Bride, Sister Act (starring Whoopi Goldberg), Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, and The Santa Clause. They also worked on Disney's hit animated movies The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King, receiving Academy Award nominations for Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin.
Hudson worked on several more films between 1995 and 1999 before retiring from Hollywood.
