Van Hise is highly influenced by New Age ideas. She is the author of Quantum Shaman[1], which she describes as being influenced by Carlos Castaneda, and defines quantum shamanism as "Simply this: through an understanding of quantum energy, we empower ourselves to awaken our shamanic abilities."

She also writes non-Trek material under at least eleven or twelve other noms de plumes.[2]
