Deneb V was an inhabited planet. This was the homeworld of the Denebians, a warp capable species. It was the fifth planet of the Deneb planetary system. This system was located in the Alpha Quadrant. This was one of four inhabited planets in this system; the others were Deneb II, Deneb IV, and Deneb XX. (TOS: "Where No Man Has Gone Before", "I, Mudd", "Wolf in the Fold"; Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, production art; DS9: "Whispers")

In 2268, this planet still used the death penalty for such crimes as fraud. The guilty party had the choice between death by electrocution, death by gas, death by phaser or death by hanging. (TOS: "I, Mudd")

An Academy of Science on Deneb V was dedicated in 2270. The crew of the USS Enterprise represented the Federation at the ceremonies. (TAS: "The Pirates of Orion")

Background

"The Explored Galaxy"

"The Explored Galaxy" was a map of charted space in the Alpha Quadrant. Deneb was located between the Tholian Assembly and Romulus. Both locations were identified in DS9: "The Search, Part II", "Call to Arms" as being located in this quadrant. This star chart was also seen in several Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes set in the 24th century, from the year 2364 to 2370. These were: TNG: "Conspiracy", "The Measure Of A Man", "The Emissary", "The Mind's Eye", "The Game" and DS9: "In the Hands of the Prophets", "Cardassians".

Deneb V (or Deneb Kaitos V or Beta 16 Ceti V) was located in or near Federation space, in the Alpha Quadrant. The planet was classified as M-class. Deneb V was governed by the Commonwealth of Denebia, an uniglobal government, that had its seat in Port Drexler. Most of the system's population, 11.2 billion out of 19.0 billion, lived on this planet. The dominant species on this planet were the Denebians and Humans. A major attraction on this planet was the Federation Academy of Science.

In the late 21st century, Deneb V colonized Deneb II. After becoming warp capable in 2259, Deneb V was admitted to the Federation in 2273. In 2378, Deneb V was a Federation member. (pgs. 33, 44, "United Federation of Planets I")
