A designer was an individual, such as an architect or engineer, who specialized in developing the architectural form of, among other things, the interior or exterior design of an object, including space stations or starships.

When Tom Paris argued whether or not he should be responsible for the design flaws of the Delta Flyer in 2378, the Ledosian Kleg mentioned that according to the maintenance records, Paris was the chief designer of this vessel. (VOY: "Natural Law")
