A dessert is any one of numerous forms of edible confections usually following a dinner or a supper. These confections can also follow a lunch. Desserts usually contain sucrose, or other forms of sugars.

Desserts are Commander William T. Riker's favorite part of dinner. (TNG: "Silicon Avatar")

When Benjamin Sisko and the crew of the USS Defiant were invited over for the first meal on Meridian, Sisko jokingly said he hoped the planet wouldn't suddenly disappear in the middle of dessert. (DS9: "Meridian")
