Dessica II was the inhabited second planet in the Dessica system, in the Taugan sector. The planet was home to ancient Romulan settlements. One of these settlements was Nafir.
In 2370, Dessica II was governed by a heavily-corrupted government. The same year Captain Jean-Luc Picard was kidnapped from a bar on Dessica II by a group of mercenaries working under Arctus Baran. (TNG: "Gambit, Part I")
According to the script, Dessica II is a frontier world at the edge of Federation space. [1]
According to the Star Trek: Star Charts (pages 45,66), the Dessica system was located in the Beta Quadrant. This system, also known as Vindemiatrix or Epsilon Virginis, was a single star system. The primary was a Class G star with a magnitude of +3, which was ten times the brightness of Sol. In the mid-22nd century, this system was in or near Romulan space. In the late 24th century, this system was in or near Federation space.
