Diane Duane is the author of several Star Trek novels, including the Rihannsu series, Spock's World, Dark Mirror and Intellivore. Her non-Trek books include "To Visit the Queen" and "Support Your Local Wizard". She lives in Ireland with her husband Peter Morwood, who has collaborated with her on some books.
Diane Duane also is the co-author of TNG: "Where No One Has Gone Before".
A character in Debt of Honor, a comic from DC, was named for Diane Duane, in a sense -- a Diane Morwood was the third-in-command of the engineering section of the USS Farragut, and a colleague of Lieutenant James T. Kirk, in 2254.
Interestingly, she is now married to Peter Morwood.
