Earl Grey tea, hot

"'Course it's hot!"

– Jean-Luc Picard, ca. 2395 ("All Good Things...")

A special blend of tea, the Earl Grey melange was named after Charles Grey, the Second Earl Grey, who apparently received a diplomatic gift of this blend. It received its distinctive flavor and aroma from bergamot oil, derived from a fragrant citrus fruit native to Earth's Mediterranean region.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard was known to have a fondness for this blend and typically ordered it hot. He was very accustomed to the taste and could tell the difference between other teas, such as Darjeeling. (TNG: "Contagion", "All Good Things...")

In late 2367, Lursa and B'Etor invited Picard to their home and served him Earl Grey tea as part of efforts to sway his decision as Arbiter of Succession. (TNG: "Redemption")

In 2369, Lieutenant Commander Nella Daren believed that Picard's consumption of Earl Grey late at night led to insomnia, and suggested a herbal tea instead. (TNG: "Lessons")

When Fleet Admiral Alynna Nechayev visited the USS Enterprise-D in 2370, Captain Picard prepared a pot of Earl Grey tea, Bularian canapés, and watercress sandwiches for her in the observation lounge, to make her feel welcome on board the ship. (TNG: "Journey's End")

On tasting Earl Grey tea in 2373, Elim Garak remarked, "I'd like to get my hands on that fellow Earl Grey and tell him a thing or two about tea leaves." (DS9: "In Purgatory's Shadow")

In an alternate timeline, Earl Grey was not yet programmed into the Enterprise-D's replicator system when the ship set out on its mission to Farpoint Station in 2364. (TNG: "All Good Things...")

After meeting Captain Picard, the man from whom he was cloned, Shinzon had some of the captain's favorite tea on the bridge of the Scimitar. (Star Trek Nemesis)

By 2399, a retired Picard had changed his customary order to a decaffeinated one. (PIC: "Remembrance")

Patrick Stewart came up with the line "Tea. Earl Grey. Decaf." in "Remembrance". [1]

Dr. Agnes Jurati was also fond of Earl Grey tea and shared some with Picard at Chateau Picard in 2399. (PIC: "Maps and Legends")
