... as Kamala. (1992)

Famke Janssen (born November 5, 1965 in Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, The Netherlands) is the actress who played Kamala in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Perfect Mate". This was one of her first notable roles, and her first television appearance.

She was one of many actresses considered for the role of Jadzia Dax in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. However, she wanted to work primarily as a film actress, so she turned the role down.

She is probably best known for her portrayal of Jean Grey in the X-Men movies, where in all three she acted alongside her Next Generation co-star Patrick Stewart, who played as Professor Charles Xavier (or "Professor X"). All three films were co-produced by Ralph Winter, and the first two featured Bruce Davison anjd were directed by Bryan Singer. The first X-Men film in 2000 saw her alongside other Trek names as Scott Leva, DS9 stuntman Ben Jensen and Star Trek: The Experience writer Gary Goddard. In X-2: X-Men United, she worked with a young actor coincidentally named James Kirk, and 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand co-stars Kelsey Grammer, John Pyper-Ferguson, and comics writer Chris Claremont.

Her breakthrough role came in 1995 when she played the villainess Xenia Onatopp in the blockbuster James Bond film Goldeneye. Also in 1995, Janssen co-starred with future Star Trek: Enterprise actor Scott Bakula in the Clive Barker film Lord of Illusions. This film also featured fellow TNG guest actor Vincent Schiavelli. Janssen then went on to co-star with Colm Meaney in the crime drama Monument Ave., which opened in 1998. Also in that year, she appeared in such films as Deep Rising, Rounders, and The Faculty. This latter film also featured fellow TNG guest stars Christopher McDonald and Bebe Neuwirth. The following year, both Janssen and Jeffrey Combs appeared in the horror movie remake House on Haunted Hill.

Her later film credits include Love & Sex (2000), Don't Say a Word (2001), I Spy (2002, with Malcolm McDowell), Eulogy (2004, with Rene Auberjonois, Sherman Howard, and Eric Pierpoint), and Hide and Seek (2005). She also continues to appear on television, having had a recurring role on the F/X series Nip/Tuck.
