A cup under a faucet on the USS Enterprise
A faucet was a valve that controlled the flow of liquid or gas.
When Gary Mitchell came in contact with the strange energies of the galactic barrier in 2265, he began to display a widening array of psychic abilities, including telekinesis. He displayed this for the first time when he was able to move a cup under a water faucet in sickbay, and after it had filled, he directed it to himself in bed. (TOS: "Where No Man Has Gone Before")
